As an important part of the power grid, substation, the reliability and security of which directly,affects the smart grid building and security and stability of operation of the entire network. Through the investigation of the actual substation environment, the complex of running environment and a larger number of infrastructure and electrical equipment can be found, so substation is the most unsafe part of the grid. At present, the personnel on duty patrol often fail to timely detect potential safety problems, in addition the factitious subjective factors also effect on the problem of judgment. As the demand for social power supply reliability growth, increasing automation and the informatization level of substation monitoring and ensuring the reliability of its operation have become the inevitable choice.In this paper, in view of the above problems, a complete substation intelligent environment monitoring system was designed, and monitoring experiment system was set up for data acquisition, transmission and display. First of all, the design of the overall framework of substation intelligent environment monitoring system based on wireless sensor network is completed, then the collection sensor nodes are arranged after many times of experiments for the substation environment. The data will be collected to the coordinator through ZigBee wireless communication, the ZigBee Coordinator will transmit information through the serial port or wireless to the embedded gateway, and then it is displayed in the PC through the Web page, in order to achieve real-time monitoring.According to the functional requirements of each part of monitoring system, this paper focuses on the design and selection of the core parts of the system hardware. Then according to the need of substation site environment characteristics and environment monitoring indicators, the monitoring information hardware nodes are designed and the optimal deployment scheme of interference factors under different sub node is determined. Meanwhile the PC software of the monitoring system are designed, and using Linux embedded operating system to built embedded Web server to realize receiving, display and other primary treatment of environmental monitoring data.Finally, the real-time experiments were carried out in the specific environment of Nangong city substation, through the running of the experiment system, the monitoring system can meet the requirements, for improving the management level of substation it can provide technical support.
