| The northern dwelli ng is the typical building system, espe cially the quadrangle dwellings.The quadrangl e originate d from the Weste r n Zhou Dynasty, had a rudime nt in Yuan Dynasty and became mature gradually in Ming and Qing Dynasty. As the external manifestation of the culture, it does not onl y have strong area bui lding feature, but al so reflect the living habit,culture feat ure and the difference between south and north. This becomes an important re search point for how to analyze the culture i nside information of traditional northern dwe llings and protect their building fea tures.In this paper, first t he evolution of quadrangle dwell ings form the space, dynamic and ethical based on courtyard distribution i s introduce. Then de scribed for m feature s included roofs, doors, second, screen wall, w indows etc. and layout characte ris tic included brick carvings, wood carvings, stone carvings etc. Finally t he cultural i denti ty formed by Ethical culture in Confucian, ge omantic culture in Taoism and regional cultural is pr oposed.The culture inherit is the emphasis on the resea r ching of traditional dwell ings, such a s t he imperial powe r effect at building qua dr angle dwe llings, gr ade re cognit ion of law limit and central axis idea; the geomancy of courtyard deigning, natural scene des igning and regimen of mental seeking are the s upplement for Confuci anism cul ture. For the current bui lding designing as tall-building and vi lla, these cultur es can be used for reference. Extracting t he quadrangle dwellings feature, inheriting culture feature and re specting nature are able to improve the culture awarene ss and traditional art perc epti on of loca l r esidents. |
