The Research On Economic Feasibility And Transport Organization Of Railway Piggyback Transport In China

ABSTRACT:As one of the main forms of the door-to-door transport and intermodal transport in the Occident, piggyback transport has the features of economy and energy conservation, environmental protection, safety and reliability, producing good social and economic benefit. Learning the successful experience from foreign countries and developing the piggyback transport in our country will further improve the organization form of our railway door-to-door transport. It enlarges the service scope and promotes the service quality of railway freight industry, decreasing the social logistics cost, energy consumption and pollutant emissions. Therefore, the piggyback transport is of broad development prospect and vital significance.Based on the key research of China Railways Corporation, this thesis studies the economic feasibility and transport organization of piggyback transport in our country. Firstly, the thesis introduces the operational situation and management modes of piggyback transport in the Occident, and then puts forward the development and operation strategy of piggyback transport in our country. Secondly, through analyzing the significant advantages of railway transport in energy saving, environmental protection and safety, the thesis illustrates the necessity to develop piggyback transport in our country. Besides, the thesis contrasts the cost of piggyback transport with road transport, and then comes up with the pricing strategy in the early stage. Furthermore, through researching the transport organization, including the organization means, operation scheme design method and management modes of piggyback transport in our country, the thesis determines the transport organization method of piggyback transport, building the model for the sharing rates and operation scheme of piggyback transport train, puting forward the management mode for the early stage piggyback transport. Finally, the thesis takes Beijing-Shanghai double-stack container transport corridor as an example, forecasting the OD freight volume of piggyback transport. Based on that, the operation scheme and timetable of piggyback transport on this railway are designed.Through the research of this thesis, it is shown that the railway developing piggyback transport under the current conditions in our country is necessary and economically feasible. Besides, the marshalling form of piggyback transport in our country is suitable for adopting unit train.
