The Design Of The Urban Public Open Waterfront Based On Genius Loci

City waterfront open spaces are the most dynamic, popular, and attractive places in a city. Excellent city waterfront landscapes are these that not only can meet city dwellers’ outdoor activities and cultural expressions but also represent an overall image of a city.They play an important part in the molding of a city’s character and spirit of place. This article explores how to design an agreeable waterfront space that can meet human’s spiritual needs from the perspective of space user in combination with Genius Loci theory and city waterfront space design. This aims to help people develop a sense of identity and belonging toward waterfront space and build the Genius Loci of city waterfront space.Therefore, this article analyzes the factors influencing the building of waterfront Genius Loci in combination with the experience of domestic and foreign outstanding successful waterfront space cases from the perspective of the nature of Genius Loci. Meanwhile, this article summarizes the design principle of waterfront Genius Loci. Through the POE evaluation methods, this article evaluates and analyzes the current situation of waterfront Genius Loci building in Nanchang’s Qiushui Square. Apart from this, this article explores the deficiencies of Genius Loci in Nanchang’s city waterfront landscape design to present relevant optimization strategies. This is intended to provide referential basis for the construction of city waterfront space in the future.This article includes six parts.Part 1 is the introduction. In this chapter, the writer discusses the research’s background, goals, meanings, and idea, and puts forward the necessity of applying the theory of Genius Loci to the design of city waterfront open spaces.Part 2 elaborates relevant concepts and analyzes the research process. In this chapter,the writer researches and combs through relevant concepts. Combining domestic and overseas research activities and analysis of worthy cases, this chapter lays theoretical foundation for the research in the remaining of this article.Part 3 analyzes the spiritual meanings of waterfront open spaces and their elements. In this chapter, the writer analyzes the nature of Genius Loci and summarizes the elements of the spirit of waterfront open spaces. The analysis and summary lay a foundation for the research in the following part.Part 4 revolves around design principle and evaluation system. This part proposes design principle of Genius Loci from four angles and makes use of POE evaluation method to determine the evaluation factors theoretically based on the influencing factors of waterfront Genius Loci. Meanwhile, an investigation into the current situation of Genius Loci building is made, with waterfront belt at Nanchang’s Qiushui Square taken as the research object.Part 5 is case analysis. The writer applies the theory system to the living example.Through the investigation and analysis of the waterfront belt at Nanchang Qiushui Square,the writer presents the optimizing countermeasures.Part 6 is the conclusion. It summaries and concludes the whole article.
