As an important component of basic education,primary education is the source that powers social development.Various kinds of school activities take place in specific teaching places.Thus,teaching space is the main area for students to live and study.With the rapid changes of social economy,frequent iteration of science and technology,and increasingly mature of education itself,it is necessary to make substantial changes in the old teaching space in order to meet the needs of future society for talents and students’personal growth.Furthermore,Teaching space has significant impact on the development of students’physical and mental health,so the Teaching space should be systematically designed to enhance the educational value of schools,supplemented by aesthetic value and economic value.From the perspective of Genius Loci theory,this paper discusses the feasible construction of school teaching space.It is expected that through the analysis and interpretation of Genius Loci theory,some optimization strategies for the design of primary school teaching space will be put forward.This essay adopts several research methods including literature review,field investigation,a combination of qualitative and quantitative research,and inductive analysis.Based on the modern educational concepts and taking into account the design of the primary school teaching space comprehensively.The thesis proposes several corresponding principles,strategies and methods to optimize the teaching space of primary schools.The paper reflects back on the history and looks to the future,starts from theory and points to practice.The 1stchapter shows a clear structure and introduces the research background,purpose,significance,object and content.It analyzes the current research of genius loci and the teaching space of primary schools.Finally,it determines the methods and sorts out the framework for research.The 2nd chapter interprets the theories of Genius Loci and primary school teaching space.Then the 3rd and the 4th chapter investigate the primary school in Nanjing at different times,and discusses how to create Genius Loci in primary schools’teaching space,by referring to domestic and foreign design cases.In the 5th chapter,the author puts up the strategies of fine design in primary school teaching space and attempts to guide practice with theories.The 6th chapter introduces researches of two primary school that the author once designed,namely Xiaoying Primary School and Primary School Attached to Nanjing Normal University.The 7thchapter is to conclude and prospect,which summarizes the full text.It expounds main results of the research formed in this thesis,and analyzes the future development trend of primary school teaching space under Genius Loci.Through the analysis of Genius Loci and architectural phenomenology,this paper integrates theories into the distribution of primary school teaching space.The essay aims to provide ideas and methods for the design of teaching space of Primary school in the future.
