Homogeneous architectural design leaves urban buildings no identity or regionalcharacteristics. The contemporary regional architectural creation practices which areaffected by the commercialism are mostly symbolic collage and relatively lack of researchand exploration in the aspect of tectonic. This paper attempts to summarize the strategy ofChinese architectural heritage and innovation, and provide some reference to relatedresearchers, from the view of tectonic, base on the study of traditional materials, construction, structure and construct progress, and the analysis of outstandingcontemporary regional architecture cases. Due to china’s vast territory, diversity ofgeography, climate, culture, people as well as construction tradition, the author choose threesouthern region, which have certain similarities and uniqueness in climate, economy, culture and construction tradition-Huizhou, Jiangnan, Linnan as start points of theresearch. Base on the analysis and comparison of geography, climate, culture and tectoniclayers, this paper reviewed regional performance of architecture in Huizhou, Jiangnan,Linnan areas and concluded strategies based on materials, construction, structure andconstruct progress, which can be useful to future regional architecture creation, by relatingto other regional outstanding architecture. These strategies focus on not only the expressionof structure, phenomenological characteristic of materials, construction progress, but alsothe connection between construction and people’s production and life, making it moreeconomic, ecological and humanism. Finally, this paper reviewed the meaning of tectonicand regional research from the view of “whole life” design and “regional”changes.
