Research On Application Of Chinese Traditional Gardening Ideology To The Roof Garden Design

China is now at a stage of accelerated industrialization and urbanization. With the growth of economicand population, land source has been almost exhausted. Environmental problems, which are “airpollution”,“urban heat island effect”, and “noise pollution”, are becoming more and more serious.Rising the space with greenery and bring the city back to nature is one of the most effective way tohandle this problem and rooftop planting is the way out. However, how to do the landscape design ofmodern rooftop garden using the idea from traditional garden architecture is a very important problem.The main functions, the developing condition and technique issues are discussed based on the historybackground of rooftop garden and the environment condition. The ideas of traditional gardenarchitecture are also analyzed in detail. There are a lot of differences between rooftop gardens andgeneral gardens on the ground, in another word, the expression of artistic conception is more important.This paper aims at research on the combination of the ideas of traditional garden architecture with thedesign of rooftop garden, and focuses on the implement of spatial arrangement method used intraditional ideas on the design improvement. The outstanding cases from home and from abroad areselectively analyzed, and the reflection of ideas of traditional garden architecture through theapplication of construction technique, the building materials, and the architecture methods on rooftopgarden is discussed separately.In conclusion, the design method in this paper stick to the principle of “caring for people”, is proved tobe feasible in practical and in theory based on the systematic and elaborate research of design method.Means of artistic expression in garden architecture and the effect of visual environment on people’sbehavior and psychology are paid for a lot of attention. The dream of modern people about theenvironment, the ecological technology and the traditional ideas of garden architecture are combined todirect the design of modern rooftop garden. The level of the material progress and cultural andideological progress are both rise by applied the Chinese culture factors to the building of rooftopgardens, and a road of developing rooftop garden is underway with our national features.
