BAI Ju-yi,a famous poet in the Middle Tang Dynasty,is also a great gardener.His garden thoughts not only blended with the artistic conception of poetry,but also contained the wisdom of his life,which had a profound impact on the gardening of later generations in China and the development of garden art since the Heian era in Japan.Firstly,the author sorts out the trajectory and gardening practice of BAI Ju-yi’s life in chronological order by referring to the literature to recapitulate the continuous transformation of his gardening thoughts in this process.The author also analyzes the tolerance of Japanese literature and Japanese gardens for BAI Ju-yi according to the context of "Japanese literature affects the garden",especially focusing on the way and tendency of tolerance.Secondly,the author focuses on BAI Ju-yi’s idea as moderate hermit which can best represents his garden thoughts and then analyzes the garden thoughts inside it which is full of leisure in BAI Ju-yi’s later years.After that,the author discusses its impact on Japanese gardens from multiple angles.Finally,the author selects BAI Ju-yi’s three typical and unique garden thoughts to demonstrates the connection with the Japanese garden through rigorous and objective traceability analysis and comparative analysis.When consulting materials,the author focuses on the views and attitudes of Japanese scholars in order to obtain more realistic and objective conclusions.This paper aims to explore the influence of BAI Ju-yi’s garden thoughts on Japanese gardens to further deepens the understanding of BAI Ju-yi’s garden thoughts by studying the practice process of Japanese gardens’ imitation,development and innovation of BAI Ju-yi’s garden ideas,and hopes that this paper can have some enlightenment and guidance on the creation and practice of modern Chinese gardening in terms of ideas and techniques.
