The Study On Boundary Space Design Of Open City Park

Since the concepts of "sustainable development" and "people-oriented" are penetrating into the minds of public, the development of open urban public park becomes a trend. Now open urban public park can be found in many cities. However, rapid growth brings many inevitable issues, such as the unreasonable boundary space, one of the most serious issues needed to be addressed. The term of “boundary space” is newly recognized since parks start being open for public. Although the importance of boundary space is approved, people do not pay enough attentions on this new issue when they do researches on open urban public park. As a vital factor which have directly influence on both the surrounding spaces and park, boundary space may affect the accessibility, usability and landscape receptivity of a park.In this project, boundary space would be the mainly research object during the study on open urban public park. The boundary space of a park refers to the interspace belonging to the open park which has direct contact with surrounding urban land. At the beginning, a research on the related basic theories on boundary space is done to understand and conclude its types, characteristics, and responsibilities on open parks. Besides, analysis on the boundary space of Central Park New York City USA and The French Citroen Park also provides some experience of practical applications. After that, the author did a field survey on Beijing Dadu City Wall Relics Park, Beijing Lotus Pond Park, Beijing Yuyuantan Park, Shijiazhuang Xiqing Provincial Jural Park and Chang’an Park. According to the field survey, the advantages and disadvantages of boundary space in different parks are analyzed by taking the entire design and actual utilization into considerations.After the dual cognition of theory and practice,I return to the theme to put forward the viewpoint of the design of the boundary space of open city park.On the basis of gardening elements plants, water,terrain, road and pavement, i join the light element in.And the special application points of each element in boundary space are described;I summarize seven design principles---the principles of unity, regionalism,humanity, function, dynamics and hierarchy, sustainability and openness.Finally, with the experience of the two classic case study and spot investigation,i Proposed “local conditions and human priority” strategy,which is the important theoretical results of the article.In the last chapter of this project is a case study on Longze Lake Park in Nangong in Hebei Province. After the introduction of the design of whole park, specialized analysis on boundary space were done on vertical, node, traffic, plants and light. Detailed analysis on boundary space was followed to reflect the results from the previous study.
