With the new mode "biology-psychology-sociology" appearing in the modern medical science, patient-oriented service has become the focus of all the hospitals and health care centers. Also, it brings about a new challenge to all the architects who aim to design a humanized and convenient medical center and explore a gorgeous treatment environment to all the people. Luckily, the United States of America has exhibited the high levels of refinement and sophistication in hospital and health care design. It helps the Chinese architects to learn and accelerate the pace of development.Through a comparative study of the Chinese and American rehabilitation ward in the health care center, the paper states the obvious shortcomings of our country. First, health care center infrastructures are old and out of dated; Second, the working environment is poor and inconvenient to the working staff; Third, the heath care unit is in low efficiency, such as being short of function, being simple of layout, being crowded of rooming. Fourth, the patients’ relatives or families are ignored during the design of the buildings. These problems not only prevent the hardware development of the medical buildings, but also impede the software improvement as well. So, setting up the human-oriented designing system and finding the connection between human and space is the key to the whole research. To begin with, this paper focuses on the perspective of the users. It makes the survey on the needs of the medical workers, patients, the patients’ relatives and families etc. to a health care unit or even to a building. The analytic research clarifies the requirements of different people in the heath care center, displays the contradiction and the interconnection of them.Secondly, based on the advanced designing strategy of America and China’s practical situation, this paper explores the ways on human-oriented designing, straightening out the relationship between privacy, identity and territoriality in architecture space.Thirdly, the paper lays a deep insight on the essential needs of human-oriented design. It believes human-oriented concept stems from human-oriented management while human-oriented management roots in human-oriented system construction. In other words, without a reasonable overall health care center planning, the human-oriented design can never be achieved.Last, with the guidance of evidence-based design principle, combining a real project which is located near Dalian Port, this paper analyses the advantages and disadvantages of design and tries to provide a humanized and ideal living space to the users.
