Research On Decorative Arts Of Gongxian Grottoes

In the research of decorative art in the area of Gongxian grotto, the main points are the shape, composition, color and aesthetic rules of statues and decorative patterns.The statues and decorative patterns of Gongxian grotto formed the typical style of the late Northern Wei Dynasty. It not only reflects the development and achievements of grotto sculpture of the late Northern Wei Dynasty, and also enlightened the sculpture art in Northern Qi and Sui Dynasty. So discussing the development of grotto art in this special period, as well as concluding the mechanism, regulations and rules, are of great importancefor the modern design to inheritChinese traditional culture.At present the study of Gongxian grotto is not enough,and is generally for archaeological research, or is occasionally mentioned in other studies. This paper is a comprehensive study of the decorative patterns of Gongxian grotto in North Wei Dynasty. Firstly, the decorate content of each grotto are systematicallyanalyzedbased on on-site visits and collected image data. Secondly,the main decorative statues and decorative patterns are specifically classified, and the patterns shape,composition and characteristics of organizational forms of each category are described combined with the collected image data. Then the decorative featuresof the decorative patterns and statues in different parts are analyzed. It gives comprehensive interpretation on composition features of and aesthetic principles from two different decorative angles:the plane and space decoration. Finally, the style and features of decorative patterns of Gongxian grotto are summarized, and the inspiration and reference to modern decoration design are explored.The law of formal beauty of decorative art is almost involved in all the fields of visual arts. This research takes the decorative beauty reflected in the Gongxian Grotto as an example, and expounds the basic theory of decorative pattern design. It provided systemic proof for the practice of modern design drawing on traditional art.The arrange of decorative patterns enrich the pattern resources of traditional art, and provide rich materials for modern design practice. It has important practical significance in enriching the content and performance practices of modern art design and innovation, highlighting the national characteristics and so on.
