Traditional vernacular dwellings are indispensable one part of historical and cultural heritage in our Country. But in recent years, they are gradually disappeared. It is lack of fund and wisdom of crowds too much focusing on the large and medium-sized cities that makes all walks of life not active in protecting the rural traditional vernacular dwellings. Long times out of renovation brings performance problems and lack of professional knowledge, which makes folk spontaneous renovation lead to secondary destroy on historical and cultural heritage. Under the circumstances, it is meaningful to discuss the traditional residential buildings reuse design on the premise of protecting historical and cultural heritage value.Baesd on Wang Mansion in Qimen,by doing survey, data compilation, fuction development, material performance test, this research clarifies the key issues and strategies in the process of the adaptive reuse design of Wang Mansion. Furthermore the thesis analyses relevant domestic and overseas examples of traditional vernacular dwellings renovation to explore the common strategies and methods.The thesis is composed of five major parts. The first chapter expounds the research theme and background. The second chapter defines the relative concept and summarizes the process and principle of adaptive reuse design, and also analyses the key issues in the process of design. The next three chapters are further discussion of the key issues mentioned in chapter two mainly analysing the relative problems and solutions in the 3 phase:survey and analysis, design and conversion,renovation and improvement.At last, review and summary of the whole text are offered..
