China is a country with frequent earthquakes. In recent years, several severe and less severe earthquakes stroke our country and caused great damages of buildings. Now an active earthquake period is coming. Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province which located in the southwest of China on May 12, 2008, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake, killed 69227 people and destroyed 5.3625 million houses; On April 20 in 2013, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake happened in Yaan County of Sichuan Province. The epicenter located in Longmen of Lushan County and more than 99% of the buildings collapsed there, the earthquake caused a total of 196 people killed. The damage from earthquake will be different for the buildings with different structures.A huge proportion of buildings in China are multistory buildings, especially in rural towns and poor economic areas as the main buildings. Past studies have shown statistical results that these types of buildings are damages to earthquakes, especially those built in rural towns and poor economic areas. Therefore further research to study the seismic performance of multistory buildings is very important.This paper introduces several popular structures which include frame structure, masonry structure and masonry structure with bottom frame. The analytical results was compared with code for seismic design of buildings, which include base shear, response-spectrum method, time-history method and Pushover. The paper involves the following works:1. This paper introduces the four main types of seismic performance evaluation method which are base shear, response-spectrum method, time-history method and Pushover), expounds the principle of static elastic plastic analysis method, the Pushover method, hypothesis, evaluation steps and so on.2. According to the earthquake damage characteristics of multistory building in China. Through the discussion on the modeling method, frame structure according to the engineering information modeling to determine; masonry structure uses the equivalent frame model modeling; masonry structure with bottom frame of reinforced concrete shear wall at the bottom and brick masonry structure is adopted in simulation such as equivalent frame model, the other part of the same according to engineering data modeling.3. By using SAP2000, research seismic performance of the above three kinds of structure. Contrast the maximum displacement and interlayer displacement angle through the analysis of the four methods obtained after analysis4. Relative to other methods, Pushover method can show the structure of the plastic hinge, find the weak parts of the structure.Compared Pushover and the time-history method analysis results, concluded that maximum displacement correction coefficient of Pushover,to make up for shortage of Pushover.The results of the study show that, Compare to the results of the base shear, response-spectrum method, time-history method and Pushover, the differences were smaller. Pushover is a rapid, simple and practical seismic evaluation method, the weak place could was provided when the multistory building was subjected to rare earthquake, it is beneficial to structure seismic performance evaluation and strengthening.
