The ship engine room monitoring and alarm system is an important content of marine automation. It can monitor the running status and parameters for all kinds of power equipment accurately and reliably. Once running state failed or the equipment parameters is abnormal, the system will send out sound and light alarms and print the alarms to record. The fault state will be displayed in the central control room and each extension alarm panel monitor screen automatically. So we can know the running status and parameters and alarm status of all the equipment in the engine room as long as within the central control room. However, there is a large gap in the field of Marine engine room monitoring alarm system between our country and others. This paper is based on the study of various types of marine engine room monitoring alarm system, designs a set of prototype system that could satisfy the requirement of relevant specification.This paper introduces the development of engine room monitoring alarm system, and characteristics of products at home and abroad at first, then analyses the basic functions of the engine room monitoring alarm system, technical standards and specification requirements, put forward the framework of the overall design of system, and prepare the schedule of monitoring point according to the actual ship environment. Then design and select the hardware module. Design program for lower computer. This system adopts the Siemens S7-300 PLC as the controller, acquire the data and design alarm processing program combined with the ladder diagram and SCL language. In order to make the program structure more clearly, the idea of modular design is adopts, which improves the scalability of the program. The software of human-computer interaction interface is designed and developed in visual C# programming language based on .NET Framework4.0 programming environment. User controls which are integrated development environment provides a rich interface elements and friendly man-machine interface for the development of system softwareIn the process of development, lower computers are the PLC controllers, while the upper computers are equipped with user interface software of the system. They share the data, but they are independent of each other on the functions. The distributed data acquisition unit and the core of PLC communicate with PROFIBUS-DP. The upper computers communicate with lower computers via Ethernet. The communication mode is client/server mode. The communication between them is relied on the establishment of OPC server to implement on computer. The designs of this system meet monitoring and alarm systems of the engine room and intelligent modular development requirements.
