Urban Commercial Complex Exterior Space Research Under The Background Of City Renewal With The Case Of Chengdu

Along with the rapid economic growth of our country, the urbanization process being accelerated, the original conditions of material environment in central city district already can’t meet the demand of the current city life. At present our country is under the stage of old city renewal in large-scale, in which the construction of commercial complex has now become an important aspect for old city renewal. Comparatively speaking, the construction of commercial complex under the background of old city renewal has its own particularity, with which its surrounding environment and traffic conditions are more complicated; also bearing the more urban functions at the same time, for example, the continuation of the cultural heritage, the public life, the urban traffic, the important node, the excitation of the vitality, city image and so on; Thus the relationship between commercial complexes and its city has become an important research field today.The exterior space of commercial complex is the bridge to connect city, buildings and people. The excellent exterior space of a commercial complex can make the relationship between complex and city more harmonious and close, create the more humane and cordial place for activities, offset the defects of urban district functions and the environment meanwhile; improve the space quality of urban area so that the exterior space of commercial complex is of great importance for promoting the development of commercial complex itself and of the city.But at the moment, the commercial complex building is still focused on the high capacity and internal space construction under the old city renewal; it does not pay enough attention to exterior space, city space and the relationship between the two, which bring a lot of problems, the commercial complex does not play a desired role that brings the city vigor and build positive city space, even sharp contradictions has appeared between the old city and the commercial complexes. It is the rapid speed of construction that exposes the short boards of theory and research on design of the commercial complex and its exterior space, thus we are in urgent need of rich complex exterior space design theory and guide the subsequent designs.The first chapter of this paper has discussed on the particularity of commercial complex construction and the importance of complex exterior space under the background of the old city renewal, firstly. The second chapter reviews the development history of commercial complex, studies the famous commercial complex cases at home and abroad, classifies the cases into certain type according to the main exterior space attributes; summarizes the exterior space characteristics of various types of commercial complex on the basis of classification. The third chapter analyzes the components of complex exterior space in detail, proceeding from the space scale, nature and human behavior. The fourth chapter points out the core contents of commercial complex exterior space design in the old city renewal, sums up out the design strategies for commercial complex exterior space in the space, organization, traffic organization, humanized design, material and details, environmental improvement, vitality creation, and place making, according to the detailed theory and case studies from the preambles. On the base of previous research, the author has carried on the on-the-spot investigation and study on some commercial complexes under the background of urban renewal in Chengdu City, and make in-depth studies of their exterior space.
