Research On The Rular Public Space Design Based On Rural Memory

Rural public space, as the most core part of the country in the space, is an important place to villagers’daily-life communication, and it’s also one of the most important carrier of local rural memory. It involves the peasants’daily economic, political, cultural, and many other aspects of life, and has the vital significance in the rural harmonious life and stable development.But as the penetration of "modernity", rural society is no longer the closed and homogeneous society, and great changes happen in country life nowadays. Since the launch of a new rural construction in2006, the construction and reconstruction of rural public spaces are just copying the pattern of city mostly, and often neglected the rural local inherent habits, customs and etiquette culture characteristics. However, it has great difference between the urban public space and rural public space in their characteristics, scale and requirements in present situations; copying the ready-made urban pattern without adjusting directly causes the fact that traditional rural public space disappeares, and rural public space becomes lifeless. As a carrier of the local memory, the rural public space is now on the edge of refactoring. On the other hand, problems in the construction of new countryside planning are more serious. Some parts of country of new countryside planning are directly lattice, fill color piece and index. Then the rigid board in the process of planning and execution becomes populated with different styles of buildings; the result that just built a new building not a new village is also directly contributing to the loss of local memory and the sense of belonging.In response to the current rural construction with the problems and challenges nowadays, we should design the rural public space with the strategy that not only based on the research of current situation in the construction of rural public space, but also based on the native memory. Strategy that based on the local rural memory is neither a simple reservation of the historical buildings, nor a simple reproduction of traditional rural construction mode. It should be the memory built up in the present situation, and under villagers’internal orders. According to the research in the theory of rural memory, this paper summarize the rural public space construction path as "memory’s storage-extraction-organization-representation", and carries on the empirical research combined with instances, hoping to continue the local context, wake up the local memory, and recall villagers’ senses of identity and belonging to the villages.
