Design Research On Interior Public Activity Space In Elderly Facilities

With the aging process deepening, the demand for endowment facilities becomesexigent. Public activity space is the important part of pension facilities space whichaims to enrich the spiritual and cultural life of the elderly, to meet the demand incommunications, and to provide genial space to rest, leisure, entertainment, culturalexchange, exercise and other kinds of leisure activities, Public space with the facilityincludes space for chess, reading, dancing, entertainment and communication.However, the design of the public space of residential unit is under satisfaction.Industry standard reference is still far from adequate. Design in practice lacks detailingprocess in appropriate area apportionment, functional installation and organization oftraffic flow. So the thesis researches on the design method of the public space.First of all, the thesis studies public space in Japan and America as therepresentative and summarizes the development trends and characteristics and draws onthe experience in the design of public space.On the other hand, through the field research on the endowment facilities in China,the thesis summarizes status of usage and problems of relating to public activity space.Then, through the questionnaire, studies on the physical and mental characteristicesof facilities in the elderly, meanwhile analyzes the behavior characteristics of the elderlyand delves into the requirements of elderly public activity space.Finally, above all, the thesis classifies public spaces, discusses the key points of thedesign of public space on the basis of space form and interior design of the functionspace and furniture configuration; delves into the organization pattern, characteristic,location and traffic interaction; summarizes recommendations on area andconfiguration standardizations according to the related standards and foreign publicspatial configuration and summarizes the interior environment design methods of publicspace from the style, material, physical environment and other environmental aspects.These research results of this thesis provide a valuable reference for the design,looking forward to provide inspirations for the architects.
