As the carrier of city’s history, historic districts record the historical changes ofthe city, and reflect the features of the traditional scenes directly. With the accelerationof urbanization, traffic problems have hindered the development of historic districts. As life, entertainment, business and other activities inside, various traffic flows areintertwined, chaotic order directly reflects the contradictions between modern transportdevelopment and the protection of historic districts. As the main and the mosttraditional transportation of historic districts, slow traffic is often ignored in urbanconstruction. With the sustainable development of historic districts, it becomes seriousto create a harmonious slow traffic environment.Firstly Shoshi Temple is taken as the research object. Theoretical analysis andfield research methods are applied to analyze the basic characteristics and trafficcharacteristics of the historic district, combined with traffic dilemma of the districtdevelopment. At the macro level,“quiet internal, fast external” and “slow traffic+busloop+bus branch” traffic patterns are proposed to adapt the transformation of thehistoric district. At the meso level, in the aspect of road network planning, the paper pull in the“micro-cycle” concept to sort out the road levels and divide the rights of ways.Pedestrian and non-motorized traffic network are planned from three levels, which areplane, line and point. For the purpose of building a continuous and efficient slowtransport network, this paper gives a method to full play the advantages of middle andshort trips by slow transport cell division. According to the drastic blind road widening approach, this paper establishes the optimization strategy from network structure tonetwork system of slow traffic to reasonably determine road expansion goals andensure the integrity and stability of the network. Finally, at the micro level, slow traffic facilities in the historic district are set fromtwo aspects which are roads and intersections to enhance slow walkers’ travel safetyand efficiency and create a harmonious slow traffic district environment through“traffic calming” strategies. In the aspect of park and ride facilities, the paper isoriented by TOD concept and put forward a controlled transfer strategy to perfect slowtraffic transfer, which set P&R facilities and large volume of public transport routes atthe periphery. Park and ride facilities are analyzed in location planning andmanagement level by taking reasonable measures to promote the slow trafficdevelopment.
