Slow transportation, defined as daily walking and cycling transportation mode,provides major convenience for our outdoor activities. It is an eco-friendly greenconcept for users and environment. Especially in an historical district given its uniquecity planning features, slowly-moving traffic can be better utilized in such condition.Hence, to analyze historical district features and to systematically combine slowtransportation in historical district transportation mode is of top priority whenconducting the study. This paper mainly provides some research on slow transportationused in historical district, pedestrian and cycling transportation characteristics inhistorical district and how well slow transportation traffic can be utilized in historicaldistrict.Firstly this paper starts with the concepts of historical city and slow transportation,to briefly define them and their features with reference to local and international studies.In the following part, this paper studies pedestrians’ transportation mode in anhistorical city, mainly focusing on pedestrian group, pedestrian space needs andtransportation preference, pedestrian psychological habit, pedestrian walking (frequency,speed) features, and pedestrian traffic flow etc., to present macro and micro aspects ofpedestrian traffic in an historical city environment.Second, the bicycle traffic characteristics of historical block are studied in thispaper, mainly including the historical block travel characteristics of bicycle, bicyclespeed characteristics, time and space distribution characteristics of the three elements oftraffic, the relationship between three elements of traffic, road and intersection of mixedflow interference characteristics of traffic transportation itself, improvement measures of the bicycle traffic characteristics of historic blocks for qualitative and quantitativeresearch.Finally, combining with the study results of historical block pedestrians and bicycletraffic characteristics, constructing the historical block slow traffic service levelevaluation index system, using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to determine indexweight, build the grey evaluation model based on grey fixed weight clustering.This article elaborated the historical block slow traffic transportationcharacteristics, provides a comparatively complete basic data for historical block slowtraffic study.This paper has important reference significance to solve a series of slowtraffic problems.
