"Child-Friendly" Residential Outdoor Environment Design Research

In recent years, with the problem of child safety, traffic safety, public facilities, orviolent crime happening more frequently, children as social vulnerable groups are underthe threat from the urban environment. Children’s rights and needs are neglected in theconstruction of modern city, making the activities of the children extremely limited, andthey have to stay away from the outdoor space, saying goodbye to the freedom ofautonomy activities, spending their childhood in an artificial or virtual environment.Based on the survival status of children in modern city, the United Nations children’sfund, UNICEF, puts forward the concept of "Child-Friendly" Cities. Compared with othercity construction concept, Child Friendly City on the city construction devotes tochildren’s right to survival and development, protection and participation. Residentialoutdoor environment is not only an important part of the city construction, but also a placewhere children often take activities. The international community pays a lot of attention tothe residential environment construction in the city to create a “child friendly” city.In this paper, on the basis of collecting a large number of domestic and foreignliterature, through the analysis of the demand for children’s outdoor activities,psychological and behavior, as well as the study of "children’s friendly" theory, This papermainly analyze the present situation and problems of "children’s friendly" level of theresidential outdoor environment formed in different periods. Through the understandingof the connotation of the "children’s friendly" residential area, It put forward thecountermeasures of application in the residential area in our country the status quo, theguidance of the principle of design methods and main direction of implementation. Finallytaking QinHuangdao existing residential area as an example, This paper analysis theenvironmental problems and put forward the improvement plan, in order to make acontribution to the "children’s friendly" residential outdoor environment research.
