ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) is a kind of electronic automatic toll collectionsystem. It can effectively solve the traffic congestion, noise and exhaust pollutionissues through the automation processing in the collection, so as to increase thehighway vehicle driving capacity and improve the user environment. OBU (On BoardUnit) is used for mobile identification and electronic toll collection as an importantpart of the ETC system.This thesis is involved in the RFID research and development projects of BeijingEmbedded System Key Lab, which provide single-chip solutions and board-levelsystem solutions for RFID payment applications. OBU is used for RFID paymentapplication in the intelligent transportation system. The R&D of standards-based andcost-effective OBU is the important force to reduce cost and pursue the ETC system.Therefore, it is very meaningful and good market prospective. According to theresearch of ETC system, based on the national DSRC (Dedicated Short RangeCommunication) standard, technical requirements and technical specifications of theproject, the thesis propose a two-piece Electronic tags solutions, which based oncost-effective, small size and low power design ideas.The system uses integrated circuit IC design and modular design in the hardwarerealization section. The main function modules of the OBU use low-cost, smallfootprint and highly integrated IC chips, which includes MSP430F5514, SKY1301and ET6602. Make signal integrity analysis with the PCB circuit designing. Inaddition, a low-power solution for a long battery-powered need is designed to reducethe risk of the battery failure, so as to improve the system power supply stability anddurability.According to the working characteristics of OBU, the main software programthat includes hardware driver layer, protocol driver layer and application layer isdesigned on interrupt service. For security requirements, the hardware and softwaredual tamper mechanism with tamper recovery application interface is designed toensure system security.The functionality and performance testing is executed in the lab with standardequipment. The test results show that the performance have reached the nationalDSRC standard. Compared with the similar products, the design with low-power and cost-effective features have certain advantages in the cost and power consumption.Therefore, the proposed implementation has a certain reference value for OBU systemdesign.
