With the rapid development of Chinese urbanization, strengthen urban infrastructure has become increasingly widespread concern from the central attention and the whole society. As a part of urban infrastructure construction, streetlights not only inextricably link with people’s daily life, but also play an important role in the security management, transportation and appearance of the city, and the design level of streetlight monitoring system reflect the level of urbanization. Currently, streetlight monitoring system has the shortage such as the outdated lights switch, serious energy consumption after midnight and low maintenance efficiency.Based on the above reasons, this paper designed the streetlight energy monitoring system based on the traffic flow detection. The system adopts three layer monitoring structure which includes monitoring center, monitoring station and monitoring terminal, the system adopts two layer network which include GPRS and ZigBee. The overall design idea is that monitoring center controls the streetlights switch according to the natural environment illuminance information. After opening the streetlights, monitoring stations introduce the RFID technology in order to detect each entrance road traffic flow information in the real time. The voltage and brightness of the streetlights are regulated according to the traffic flow information.Firstly, the paper introduces the background of the subject, the sources and significance, as well as domestic and international current state of development of the streetlight monitoring system.And then his paper introduces the scientific basis for taking the traffic flow detection technology into the streetlight monitoring system. According to the system design ideas, the system determines the RFID technology which is fit for the traffic flow detection capabilities through the comparative analysis of existing traffic detection technology. Through comparative analysis of the existing short-range wireless communications technology, this paper determines the ZigBee technology which is fit for the single streetlight control. The system design the implementation of the traffic flow detection technology and the network topology of ZigBee subnet.This paper have introduced the design of the software and hardware in detail. And then the detailed hardware design of monitoring terminal and monitoring station is carried out, and then the paper introduces the principle and circuit of silicon controlled. Before the overall software design of monitoring terminal and monitoring station, the paper introduces the detailed software design processes of ZigBee module, which include ZigBee software development tools, ZigBee stack, ZigBee network settings, ZigBee routing algorithm, ZigBee communication frame format and ZigBee application layer software design process of each monitoring node. And then the system determine the streetlight energy saving strategies based on traffic service levels through the scientific basis for the lower voltage streetlights, energy voltage threshold determines,urban traffic flow state dipartition and the traffic flow forecasting model based on exponential smoothing. Finally, this paper introduces the design and implementation of the relevant monitoring software, and this paper is summarized and prospected.
