With the acceleration of urbanization, the scale of urban road lighting facilities is also expanding. Road lighting plays a very important role in ensuring road safety, reducing nighttime crime and providing comfortable living environment. But the development of road lighting is also facing the following two challenges. On the one hand, Road lighting brings a lot of energy consumption per year, and now requires more energy-efficient lighting solutions. On the other hand, with the expansion of streetlights, the management and maintenance of road lighting has become more and more difficult, how to implement effective monitoring has become a major issue that must be resolved immediately.Because of the high-power LED’s high efficiency and long life advantages, this paper first closely integrates solar energy and LED, develops a solar-powered LED control terminal, which well reaches the predetermined performance requirements. In order to realize remote monitoring, on the basis of depth analysis of IEEE802.15.4standards and ZigBee specifications, this paper proposes a remote monitoring solution based on ZigBee and GPRS, and successfully establishes bottom ZigBee monitoring network based on CC2530, then the ZigBee coordinator further establishes a TCP connection with romote computer through GPRS module, thus achieves the remote monitoring function. This paper accomplishes remote monitoring software by C#language. The monitoring software achieves TCP communication with GPRS module through socket programming, and uses a database to store streetlight information. Finally, this paper debugges the system’s hardware and software design, and at the same time, discusses some engineering problems met in system’s realization process.Form a practical application, this paper describes the design process and implementation method of a solor-LED streetlight monitoring system based on Internet of Things. This system has some theoretical research value, and is worth to be applied in engineering.
