Study Of Anyang Traditional Settlements And Residential Building

Settlement is the place where humans dwelt in the earth, the space wherehumans living and producing to use and transform the nature, the production ofhumans’ civilization. The development of settlement contains a variety of historicaland cultural information.Anyang, located in the far north of Henan Province, is one of the cradles of theChinese ancient culture, which has rich history and cultural, forming the typical localcharacteristics. Within such a large historical and cultural environment, Anyang formstraditional settlement and residential buildings with a certain geographical features.Based on the area of Anyang city, through the basis of extensive field research,surveying and mapping,, we analyze the development process, influencing factorsand other issues of the traditional settlements, which depend on multiple perspectivessuch as natural geographic, economic, social and so on. And through the in-depthstudy of the characteristics of the type, shape and space, we reveal the underlyingregional features of Anyang traditional settlements and dwellings: Firstly, thetraditional settlements of Anyang area delay the regularities of distribution of theancient, which form various types according to the mountains and rivers situation.Thespace reflects centrality, defensiveness to some extent, and its form is linked to theroads closely. Secondly, the residential buildings of Anyang are the trandional typesof the north., being adapted to local conditions. Dwellings in mountains and plainspresent their own characteristics in the construction technology, but both pay attentionto decoration and reflect distinctive regional culture.This dissertation is divided into six chapters:Chapter I is the introduction, which both briefly explain the background of thestudies, the related research status, the research objects and methods, and confirm thedetailed framework for study.Chapter II describes the natural environment and social cultural fields in Anyangarea, and summarizes the formation and the dynamic development of the settlement,Chapter III explains a variety of factors including nature,culture,history,society that effect the Anyang settlement pattern and how these factors act on the settlementspace.Chapter IV is based on Chapter III, and summarizes the regional settlement typeas the grouping Commerce settlement in the plains, the centre-shaped Agriculture andCommerce settlement in the hilly areas, the belt-shaped Agriculture settlement in themountain valley areas, the cluster-like type Agriculture settlement in the mountains.Also this chapter explains the principles of their formation and the basiccharacteristics of these four types, and makes lateral comparison of these types fromthe size, shape, roads, buildings and other aspects.Chapter V mainly explains residential buildings, which firstly start from themacroscopic environment of settlements and summarize various types of basicorganizational forms of the residential buildings and the relationship between themand the spatial structure of settlement. Objecting to the residential monomer, thischapter makes a more detailed and comprehensive analysis of the residentialbuildings in Anyang settlement, from various constituent elements, load-bearingstructure types, building materials, decorative arts and so on.Chapter VI based on the research results above,makes a conclusion of regionalculture characteristics about Anyang settlement and residential buildings.
