Research On The Formation Of The Traditional Fort-type Settlements In The Lower Reaches Of Yellow River Area

"Traditional fort-type settlement" is a typical form of defensive settlement built by ancient Chinese ancestors to resist external invasion and internal turmoil and seek for safety.It is generally characterized by defensive structures surrounding the settlement(such as castle walls and trenches).The existing traditional(fort-type)settlement studies have obtained a lot of basic data and corresponding analysis,but there are limitations of individual or single type studies,lack of group attention and system integration.For this reason,this paper introduced a new perspective of "formation" settlement study by relying on geographic information system(GIS)modern spatial analysis technology.This paper focuses on the classification and composition of fort-type settlements,the geographic distribution of groups.From the perspective of human geography and the feasibility of the study,this paper determined that the lower reaches of the Yellow River,and combined with literature and historical records and specific examples to conduct statistics,sorting and recording of fort-type settlement information within the research scope.By using the method of comparative study,the density of selected typical traditional settlement distribution is analyzed and summarized with the modern spatial analysis technology of geographic information system(GIS).From their settlement form the natural,social and historical factors and formation types both correlation comparison and selection,summarizes the contrast of the selected typical village type,and integrate basic data information,contrast and differences between the characteristics of its and their settlement formation,this paper summarizes the individual characteristics of fort-type settlements in different historical periods in the lower reaches of the Yellow River and further reveals their evolution rules.This paper hopes to provide a new perspective for the study of residential settlement from the perspective of "formation",so as to produce positive academic significance and research value in improving the study of hierarchical system of residential settlement,promoting the protection of cultural heritage and deepening relevant social,historical and cultural studies.
