Nowadays, the industrial land renewal of old industrial areas is a relatively new research topic in the urban planning subject. Early of New China, the unbalance of regional economic development was reflected in more than70%of the industry concentrated on the land area of less than12%of the eastern coastal strip, while the majority of inland and border areas almost lacked of modern industry. In order to change the backward situation, the Party Central Committee has made arrangements for the national key projects on the more than40central cities and gradually established numbers of relatively independent industrial areas whose manufacturing sectors covered all the strategic sectors of our country, representing the development trend of the advanced productivity and making great contributions to the development of regional economy. However, at the end of the last century, these industrial areas were called as old industrial areas due to undeveloped reforms and inflexible mechanism and weak industrial competitiveness after the loss of national support. There were some common problems on several levels:low efficiency of industrial enterprises, a large number of idle land, low differential benefit of the land, serious pollution of the environment, the increasing proportion of laid-off workers and the problem of reemployment and all of these were regarded as severe functional and structural decline. But with the rapid expansion of urban space and urban development transformation and increasingly prominent contradiction between supply and demand of land, old industrial areas due to the advantage of closed to the city center and the potential of industrial land has brought opportunity for the city and old industrial areas.Based on the cases of Gongshu district (Hangzhou), Qingshan district (Wuhan),this paper takes advantage of the SWOT analysis of the regional status, economic conditions and industrial development, and has focus on the land scale, spatial distribution, development intensity, transport links, and the results were regarded as a further analysis of the goals system of Industrial land renewal and renewal mode. Finally, making a conclusion to the similarities, differences and revelation of the Industrial land renewal between Gongshu district (Hangzhou) and Qingshan district (Wuhan) for a better guide the practice and renewal of industrial areas in the future.
