Traditional gear design method is meet the strength and life theory as guidelines,andignore the influence of the selected parameters on the transmission efficiency,which results inthe energy waste and economic losses.Along with the increasing of the gear speed and thetransmission power,power loss is becoming more and more serious. Power loss can causefever, wear and vibration of the machine.It will eventually destroy the machine.So it isincreasingly important to improve the efficiency of the gear transmission.Usually,thetransmission efficiency of the gear need look up the table in accordance with ther lubricationmode and precision grade.The transmission efficiency through the table is just an approximaterange,it is not an accurate calculation results.This will produce a lot of designal error.The paper study the relationships between basic parameters and gear transmissionefficiency from the formula of transmission efficiency.This improve the work efficiency inproduction and provide important theoretical basis.It’s pointed out that the transmission efficiency has the close link with contacting ratio ofgear transmission and sliding rate.The greater the contacting ratio of the gear,which indicatesthat the more teeths of the gear take part in the meshing,the more stable of the transmission.Sothe transmission efficiency is improved.This paper briefly introduces the links betweensliding rate of the gear and transmission efficiency of the gear.Because the sliding rate in thenode is zero,so the two gears’ transmission efficiency in the node is the highest.Using the engineering software MathCAD,the author studies the relationship betweenthe parameters of the gears and the contacting ratio with the transmission efficiency,whichincludes the involute gear and the double circular arc gear.By comparising the transmissionefficiency of the involute gear and the double circular arc gear,the transmission efficiency ofthe double circular arc gear is higher than that of the involute gear.
