The transmission system of high contact ratio planetary gear has been concerned widely because it has many advantages. In this paper, transmission efficiency and tooth profile modification of high contact ratio planetary gear are researched, modification affecting the capacity of restraining scuffing is also analyzed.Firstly, based on engaging characteristics, the calculation model for the power loss of high contact ratio planetary gear transmission system has been presented. The transmission efficiency of high contact ratio planetary gear system has been calculated, and the calculation results were compared with low contact ratio planetary gear. The parameter affecting the contact ratio and transmission efficiency of planetary gear has been analyzed when one of designing parameters or working conditions was changed, and the analytical curves were acquired.Secondly, the principles and methods of tooth profile modification have been elaborated. The geometric relation of equivalent tooth for external and internal gear has been analyzed. The single deformation and stiffness have been calculated, and the global meshing stiffness of high contact ratio gear has also been analyzed. Tooth profile modification of high contact ratio planetary gear was researched by considering elastic deformation and processing error. The instantaneous contact temperature of high contact ratio gear has been researched by calculating the flash temperature, and profile modification affecting the capacity of restraining scuffing has been analyzed.Thirdly, the experiment about transmission efficiency of high contact ratio planetary gear has been developed. The transmission efficiency has been measured under different speed and torque, and the experimental results were compared with theoretical analysis.Finally, the software for researching the transmission efficiency and modification of high contact ratio planetary gear has been developed by MATLAB language, which will be convenient to research transmission efficiency and modification of high contact ratio planetary gear transmission system.
