Theory and practice of ecological construction has been widely carried out in developedcountries. But these are mostly high investment research, and are lack of local relevance. Soit is difficult to promote the implementation and is not suitable for China’s condition.Traditional architectures of our country last for thousands of years. They are rich inecological ideas, and have significant research value. Traditional houses are the mostuniversal and representative kind among the traditional architectures. Traditional housesreflect the conditions of natural geography. They are the results of combination of the naturalenvironment and the ways of lifestyle. Traditional houses are well constructed to makeunique answers to the environment. They can neither be replaced nor transplanted. Therefore,our study of ecological construction should not only pursue foreign high-tech promotion, butalso should focus on ecological wisdom of traditional houses’ study to draw nutrients fromthe traditional houses which rely on local environmental.Ecological attributes as the starting point, to reduce the impact of construction on theecological environment and to provide a healthy living environment as the basis principles ofthe judgment rules, this article respectively analysis the design ideas, methods, materials andstructure of traditional houses of Sichuan Basin. The article studies the houses’inner cultureon interaction with the natural environment, and digs the eco-experience connotation from thelevel of settlement planning to the level of architectural detail.The first chapter introduces the research background, significance, current research,research methods, innovation and research framework, and set out the overall structure. Thesecond chapter discusses the natural geographical and cultural environment of traditionalhouses of Sichuan Basin and summarizes the formation of traditional houses and its basicfeatures. The third chapter discusses the two basic characteristics of ecological construction,as the ecological criteria to analysis the traditional houses of Sichuan Basin. The fourthchapter discusses the eco-experience of settlement planning from the aspects of its sites andoverall arrangements. The fifth chapter analyzes the eco-experience of traditional housesfrom the aspects of terrain handling, climate adaptation measures, materials and constructionmethods. By corresponding content of the fourth and fifth chapter, the sixth chapter reveals the revelation the eco-experience of the settlement and the traditional houses of SichuanBasin, and summarizes means on how to use it in modern architecture design.This article is based on traditional architecture research, goal-oriented on contemporaryarchitecture designed, so as to explore sustainable design ideas of modern architectural designin the condition of a naturally symbiotic relationship. The article also provides methods andmodels to a design guideline. The ultimate goal is the application of research results to createnew architecture which base on the eco-experience of traditional houses.
