This dissertation investigates the private gardens of Yangzhou district in Ming and Qing Dynasties, thus, we could find the true visage of these gardens, above which we can probe into the relations between the private gardens and merchant class as well as the development and evolvement of garden culture. From this study, I try to provide some kinds of consider and use for reference to our tourism culture construction today.The forward outlines the boom of the private gardens of Yangzhou district in Ming and Qing Dynasties, emphasizes the private gardens’social influence and the position in Chinese garden history. The straight matter includes five chapters, the divisive standard according to the social morality’s feature of Yangzhou district in Ming and Qing Dynasties and the character that the garden culture expresses itself. Every chapter pays attention to the summarization of laws and features and arrangement and analysis of historical materials. The first chapter discusses the social backgrounds, status and owners of these private gardens. The second chapter focuses on the classifications and garden styles of the Yangzhou existing private gardens. The third chapters emerges the scene features structure of the Yangzhou private gardens in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The last two chapters are mainly the elaboration of the Yangzhou private garden culture, as well as comparison with the Suzhou private gardens, showing the characteristics of private gardens in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The materials come from the collected works and short sketches of Yangzhou district’s literati in Ming and Qing Dynasties. They truly and overall recorded the private gardens and the garden culture. The epilogue simply sums up the full text.The appendix is the form of Yangzhou district’s existing private gardens of Ming and Qing Dynasties. Because the research objects are not protecting very well, so the research materials are multifarious. And my scientific research ability is general. The dissertation will be hard to avoid mistakes and defectiveness. So I want the professors to give me some advices. Thank you.
