Kashgar is the name of a place in the southern part of the Xinjiang AutonomousRegion. Kashgar in Uyghur means “a city of exquisite carved and richlyornamented objects.” The Uyghurs there, who have their own customs and their ownappreciation of the beautiful, have a long history, and have created their uniquearchitecture and forms of art. The verandas are an important part of their buildingsand richly decorated, which shows their distinct vernacular architectural structuresand their unique artistic style.This paper attempts firstly to analyze and summarize the features of the Uygurverandas and colons in Kashgar, with great amount of relative pictures, among whichthere are over50distinct colonnade patterns made by computer; and secondly thefactors result in the Kashgar Uyghur residential portico architectural form are studied;and finally some suggestions are provided to improve the existing architecturaldesigns based on the Uyghur tradition in order to make our living place morebeautiful with the excellent layout, building techniques, and the features of the Uygurverandas in Kashgar.
