On July 7,1927, A Proposal named The Ban On Breast Binding put forward by Chia-hua Chu was approved in the 33 rd Conference of Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Kuomintang. This incident caused a great deal of attention and was named “Heaven Given Breasts Campaign” by the media. The “Heaven Given Breasts Campaign”,as the name implies,it is a campaign about liberating women’s breasts. The act of liberating breasts is not only related to the female body, but also related to social aesthetic conception, women’s inner consciousness, social ethics, and of course the clothing which is strongly linked to the body.“The three——clothes, body and self——can not be imagined separately but should be considered as a whole”, and the whole should be linked with the relevant social situation,Joanne Entwistle says in The Fashioned Body: Fashion,Dress and Modern Social Theory. This kind of research ideas will undoubtedly explore new horizons for the current clothing research. According to this ideas, I take the “Heaven Given Breasts Campaign” as the research object, and combine with the corresponding social background to analyze what kind of changes have taken place in female clothing during the process of female breasts from tight to liberation, then try to find out the deeper change like the social aesthetic conception, female inner consciousness and so on.The breast, as a secondary part of the body, contains sexual sense, it makes the research have more significance.
