Food is the paramount necessity of the people. Hunger breeds discontentment. With the development of social economy and improvement of people’s living standard, people’s demand for food has not satisfied to eat, eat well more requirements. The food color, fragrance, taste, variety, shape and other aspects have put forward higher requirements, and food additives is the process of food industry development in order to meet the need of the one of the most important products. But with the progress of science and technology and people’s cognitive ability, food additive is safe hidden danger exists in the specification, usage is safe, the progress of science and technology is the guarantee of food safety problems or damage the food security, has become the focus of debate. In this paper, food additives as an example, trying to think of the face and relationship between food safety and the progress of science and technology from the philosophy.This paper introduces the types and functions of common food additives first, food additive industry and the rise of the rapid development in China, and focuses on the progress of science and technology in the promotion of a new food additive product research and development, transformation of the old products, technology development and function research of great influence in many aspects. Secondly, from the chemical synthesis of food additives, natural food additives, genetically modified food additive of systematic reviews, application status, these food additives and the characteristics of its food safety problems caused by the specific reasons, the final analysis of the causes of food safety problems caused by food additives industry in different periods, which are dialectical examination on the relationship food additives and food safety issues. Furthermore, from the point of view of development and people’s food industry demands on food quality, demonstrates the inevitability of application of food additives, limitations and related regulatory system but also from the progress of science and technology is not in place and other perspective of food safety risk analysis and application of food additives may bring all increased, and further put forward to ensure food safety the key must rely on progress of science and technology, on the basis of this, put forward feasible suggestions.The basic conclusion in this paper is that, in the face of various disputes about the relationship between food security and the progress of science and technology, scientific and fair treatment. Based on food additives and correct understanding of the relevant food safety incident investigation, rational treatment of the progress of science and technology of different types of food safety incidents in the role. Through the analysis of the impact of science and technology progress effects of food additives, food additives on the correct understanding of the relationship between food security, food additives and food safety, food safety and the progress of science and technology, remind people of double for the progress of science and technology, and on many other factors influencing food safety, which is determined to ensure the food safety policy and suggestions.
