With the development of diverse arts and integration of national culture, people turn to pursue local elements and designed culture, and dig some design elements with national cultural characteristics instead of concerning about the trend of design elements in developed areas. Consequently, Buddhist art is widely used in this process. There is a growing tendency to nationalization of products. Moreover, the designers begin to dig the products with national cultural characteristics and attach great importance to national culture, therefore, it is more and more important to fully excavate artistic features and cultural heritage of Buddhist decorative patterns, combining aesthetics and cultural needs of people, and integrate them into the design of Tibetan furniture. In this paper, the author studies the decorative features of Buddhist decorative patterns in Tibetan furniture and their application in modern design of Tibetan furniture by taking Tibetan furniture as an example.As a part of C hinese traditional furniture, Tibetan furniture owns rich ethnic and local characteristics. With the rapid development of politics, economy and culture in Tibet region, inclusiveness and universality of Tibetan furniture are more and more abundant. Because the development of Tibetan furniture is mostly based on technical, spiritual, material conditions, as well as economic development, the decoration of Tibetan furniture is increasingly important. With the increase of the demands for material living standards, the requirements of consumer for furniture design are also increasing, and hence, the pursuit of spiritual emotion becomes the mainstream in addition to the pursuit of the function. In the exploration of Buddhist decorative patterns, we learn that the nomadic way of life, national cohesion, customs culture, and their aesthetic taste of the Tibetan people.Through extensive reference data and physical inspection, the author researches the Buddhist decorative patterns of Tibetan furniture and summarizes the evolution of them with analytic induction and a variety of research methods. Then, the author analyzes the implication and decorative characteristics of Tibetan furniture, and reveals the characteristics of decorative patterns of Tibetan furniture as well as cultural connotations behind them. In the third part of the paper, the author analyzes various decorative patterns in the design of Tibetan furniture and their concrete reflection and application from the perspective of the culture of Tibetan furniture. Thus, the classification and styling features of Tibetan furniture are summarized through d ata collection. In conclusion, Buddhist decorative patterns are introduced into the design of Tibetan furniture, so that the national features of furniture product will be embodied perfectly.Nowadays, Buddhist decorative patterns are unique in the C hinese art history and the world’s art history, which are complete and normalized after accumulating and refining of wisdom of craftsmen in past dynasties. In the discussion of development tendency of Tibetan furniture in the future furniture products, application principle of “picking up their shapes, extending their meanings, and making them lifelike”. Buddhist decorative patterns are valuable material for furniture design, and seeking for unique national characteristic is one of creation approaches, so that the design culture will be re-excavated. Through the study on Tibet Tibetan furniture, especially the integration and analysis of Tibetan furniture and Buddhist decorative patterns, design research of ethnic diversity of cultural products are discussed profoundly.
