Nanting River, which originated in the Boshang town of Yunnan, is a transboundary rivers of southwest border. And it is the "Mother River" of Lincang area. Natural resources within the basin are very rich, which make it becomes origin of Lincang’s food and cash crops. However, with the economic development, the original natural ecological balance has been broken, resulting in the destruction of the ecological environment. In order to solve ecological problems of Nanting River Basin, this paper based on the theory of ecological restoration, analyzes the characteristics of ecological degradation of watershed, and then evaluates the potential for ecological restoration of the basin.Ecological degradation is one of the important issues facing the world. Because of its serious threat to mankind’s survival and sustainable development of society and economy, the focus of researches is the study of ecological restoration. At present, the domestic and international research on ecological restoration is mainly determined characteristics, while few researches study on quantitative. It hinders the development of the study of ecological restoration. In support of mathematical models and GIS technology, this paper studies the quantitative research on ecological restoration of Nanting River Basin. That not only can visually see the spatial distribution of ecological resilience in the basin space, but also provide basis for decision making and research ideas that is about the development of ecological restoration and ecological reconstruction in Nanting River basin.By analyzing the actual situation of Nanting River basin and the influencing factors of ecological restoration potential, this paper selects the following indicators: patch density index, NDVI, topography, slope, aspect, the average annual precipitation, and average annual temperatures. In support of GIS, this paper quantifies the ecological restoration potential of Nanting River basin. The results show that the recovery potential of Nanting River is between 0.189691 and 0.963626. According to the Natural break of ArcGIS classify the recovery potential value, the results show that the total recovery potential of the recovery area of Nanting River Basin is strong, while recovery potential of Xingfu Township, Chonggang Township and Mengban Township are slightly weaker.
