| In recent years, the comprehensive strength of banking industry is continuously increasing, but compared with developed countries, it still shows that wholly state-owned banks are "big but not strong" and joint-stock commercial banks are "strong but not big". Now it is very crucial for the modern banks to improve the competitive ability themselves, identify and seize new opportunities in the market.Bank branch, as the main channel of bank customers oriented, has always been the business operating platform that the development of commercial banks depends on and the access to information. Based on the background of severe competition in the commercial bank industry, this paper discusses how to improve its competitive ability by means of optimizing bank branches distribution in two following aspects: evaluating each branch’s competitive ability through building scientific performance appraisal evaluation system in order to identify and confirm which branches needs optimization; combined with the overall strategy and practical business situation of commercial banks, obtaining qualitative and quantitative models by comprehensively using branches distribution optimization theory and spatial analysis technology to guide the practice of branches distribution optimization.This paper consists of seven chapters. The first chapter is the introduction part, including research background, issues, meaning and methodologies. The second chapter is the theoretical basis part, conducting literature review in terms of branches optimization theories and methodologies. The third chapter is the empirical analysis part, analyzing the current branches distribution optimization situation of a state-owned Shanghai branch bank; the fourth chapter is competitiveness analysis and evaluation of bank branches, comprehensive analysis on existing branches performance by means of questionnaire survey and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) in order to list which branches need optimization. The chapter is also to analyze the potential market value of the city’s various regions through system operation based on the geographic information data; based on the above analysis, to propose specific suggestions and measures on the overall branches distribution optimization; the fifth chapter is conclusion and suggestion, according to the research and analysis results, it puts forward suggestions and strategies on the branches distribution optimization of state-owned bank A. |
