Research On The Competitiveness Of China’s Rosin

Rosin is an important export forest product in China. The demand for rosin in the world is fast-growing trend. The industry development, character and structure of foreign trade, international competitiveness in performance and quality of China’s rosin from2001to2011have been analyzed deeply by empirical and comparative method, which is in order to exploring the main problems and difficulties of participating international competition.Studies have found that China has become world’s number one rosin exporter and producer. China’s rosin productions are mainly concentrated in Guangxi, Yunnan and Guangdong. China’s rosin trade is export-oriented, with a relatively small import. The export markets are mainly in EU, USA, and Japan. Portugal, USA, Belgium, Sweden and Netherlands are major competitors to China in exporting rosin. In recent years, China’s MS of Rosin export is first in the world. Portuguese MS of Rosin export rose to second in the world. China’s foreign exchange earning capacity of rosin trade is first in the world. Portuguese rosin export has a comparative advantage with China. China’s price and added value of export rosin are far lower than main compet、itors in the international market.The international competitiveness upgrade of China’s rosin faces many problems and difficulties, such as pine supply decline, too much small scale rosin production enterprise, excess production capacity of rosin enterprise, behind production technology, low deep processing ability, high logistics and inventory cost, lacking advanced human resource, confusing rosin tapping industry, malignant competition in domestic rosin market, out of control in producing rosin, EU REACH regulation, insufficient support by government and industry association, and so on.The government support policies of protecting forest resource, promoting scientific rosin tapping, eliminating illegal and low output factories, improving service by rosin association and traffic conditions in rosin-producing area, unveiling loose policy to scale and deep processing enterprise are put forward in regard to problems. The enterprise countermeasures of concerning over emerging markets, controlling trade surplus in major markets, actualizing talent and technology development strategy, enhancing the quality of entrepreneurs, carrying out deep processing and brand strategy, controlling export scale, registering REACH and sharing data are given in the paper.
