Energy is the material basis of human existence and development, the substitution and transformation of which is the symbol of incessant development and progress in human society. Each energy transformation will promote a qualitative leap inevitably. For centuries, energy supply mainly relies on coal, oil, gas and other fossil fuels. Along with the high rate development of human society in recent years, fossil fuels have been excessively exploited and applied, thus endangering the living environment on earth, and the limited reserves of fossil fuels restrict the sustainable development of human society gravely. Since1970s, humans have paid attention to green electric power, and with unremitting efforts, humans have developed various kinds of green electric power, trying to change energy structure and maintain sustainable development.Yunnan is in possession of abundant green power resources, the benign exploitation of which will support economic development, optimize energy structure, satisfy power supply, decrease environmental pollution, and maintain sustainable development in economy, society and environment. The establishment and operation of the first wind farm (Dafengba Wind Farm,4.8million kilowatts), as well as the grid connection and power generation of the first photovoltaic plant (the first phase of Kunming Shilin Solar Energy and Photovoltaic Grid Connecting Experimental and Model Power Station,2million kilowatts), opened a new era of green electric power development in Yunnan Province. Up to now, Yunnan Province has put into operation wind power generation of over190million kilowatts and photovoltaic power generation of6.2million kilowatts. However, some problems still exist in the course of Yunnan green power development, which still lags behind developed areas at home and abroad. Taking the natural, geographical and environmental advantages in the province into consideration, this thesis conducts research on Yunnan green power development, adopting PEST analysis method to analyze the macro-environment, SWOT analysis method to analyze the strength, weakness, opportunities and threats. Green electric power development is of great necessity and feasibility in Yunnan Province, and suggests that Yunnan Province give priority to wind power generation, steadily advance photovoltaic power generation, and moderately develop biological mass-energy in feasible areas. PEST analysis and SWOT analysis methods are mainly used for enterprise strategy establishment and competition analysis, and it is found in the writing of this thesis that they are of great practical and reference value when applied in energy strategy research.
