The Study Of The Coupling Coordination Between The Compactness And Development Degree Of The South And North UA-YRD

With urban agglomeration on Yangtze River Delta (UA-YRD) entering into a newphase of development, the problems of inefficient use of resource and urbandevelopment caused by extensive development model have concerned the academics andgovernment The introduction of the concept of compact Urban agglomeration provides anew perspective to the question of the change of the extensive model for development ofboth south and north UA-YRD,which is beneficial to the sustainable development.Compactness, the core conception of compact urban agglomeration, refers to the spatialconcentration degree of physical entities such as industry, resource, funds, traffic,technology and talents according to a specified economic and technological association.Compactness reflects the comprehensive efficiency of urban agglomeration. The couplingcoordination degree between compactness and development degree directly affects theoperative efficiency and development level of UA-YRDUA-YRD lies in the highly-developed region in China but has a certain discrepancy.From the view of industry, space and traffic, this paper measures the compactness of bothsouth and north UA-YRD and analyzes the harmonious relationship between theircompactness and development degree, which, on a certain extent, reflects the disparity ofdevelopment among UA-YRD.It finds that there are similarities and differences among UA-YRD. The similarities liein that both south and north UA-YRD have come in a development phase featuring ahighly coupling coordination degree between compactness and development degree and adevelopment degree-lagged type. The differences reflect that the three index, thecompactness, development degree and their coupling coordination degree of the northUA-YRD is higher than those of the south.Based on the results, it suggest that both partsof UA-YRD should focus on efficiency as well as volume, and that based on thewell-organized structure of shape,the integration of function and efficiency and then the improvement of development degree can be realized. It also suggests that the south partshould enhance its comprehensive ability and level for development to bridge the gapbetween the south and north UA-YRD and then bring about sustainable development ofUA-YRD.
