The urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River,which connects the north and the south as well as supports east and west,is the largest urban agglomeration in central China.It occupies a very important position in China's regional economic development pattern.The development level and quality measurement of urban agglomerations are the focus research direction of urban geography and regional economic in the current.Measuring spatial differences in traffic superiority degree by traffic superiority degree models and land use efficiency by Data Envelopment Analysis in urban agglomerations and reveal the spatial relationship between the development level and quality of cities in the process of urban agglomeration development.Exploring how to optimize the allocation of internal resources needed for urban development more rationally and recognizing the spatial differences of regional development and reasonably evaluate the quality of internal development of urban agglomerations,in order to seeking a new situation for green development and high-quality development and exploring how urban agglomerations in the new normal state of economic development can find cooperative development directions and action paths for urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.Using the data on land use,urban economic development,urban transportation,and environmental pollutant emissions obtained from the 2017 statistical,and the urban traffic road network data downloaded from the Internet of the urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River,with the help of EXCEL,SPSS,ArcGIS and other software and its plug-ins to made the construction of traffic superiority degree index system and land use efficiency index system.Using data envelopment analysis and spatial analysis to quantitative calculation of traffic superiority degree and land use efficiency indicators,and using coupling harmonious degree model to get the coupling degree and coordination degree of traffic superiority degree and land use efficiency of the urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.The results are as follows:(1)The traffic superiority degree pattern: The level of traffic superiority degree of each city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River is relatively good,and the degree of each city is above 0.5;The high-value areas and low-value areas of the transportation dominance level show a spatial clustering pattern,and the overall pattern is a high spatial pattern in the middle and low in the east and west;Among the three sub-urban clusters in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River,the Wuhan metropolitan area has the highest level of transportation advantage,and it shows a decreasing trend from Wuhan to the west;The level of transportation advantage of the cities within the Wuhan urban circle is quite different,and its spatial differentiation is relatively obvious,while the difference in the level of transportation advantage between the Changsha-ZhuzhouXiangtan urban agglomeration and the Poyang Lake urban agglomeration is relatively small.(2)The land use efficiency patten: The land use efficiency of the urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River presents a pattern of high in the middle and low in the east and west,while the low value of land use efficiency appears in the southeast of the urban agglomeration,that is,the area around the Poyang Lake urban agglomeration.Generally speaking,the higher the level of urban economic development or the higher the level of intensive land use,the higher the land use efficiency.The land use efficiency of each city in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration is the highest,the development levels of the cities in the Wuhan urban circle are comparable,and the land use efficiency around the Poyang Lake urban agglomeration is relatively low and the internal land use efficiency is significantly different.(3)The coupling harmonious degree between traffic superiority degree and land use efficiency: Overall,the higher the transportation advantage,the higher the land use efficiency.The transport dominance of most cities in the urban agglomeration is synchronized with the development level of land use efficiency;Some cities show the characteristics of advanced transportation development and the construction of transportation infrastructure in these cities has not fully exerted their ability to lead and drive urban land use efficiency;Some cities exhibit lagging characteristics of transportation development,and their transportation infrastructure systems have not kept up with the needs of high-quality urban development.The level of coupling and coordination of transportation dominance and land use efficiency in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River is better.Yichun,Xiaogan,and Fuzhou have the lowest level of coupling harmonious degree among the urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.(4)The problems may be exist in the integration and high-quality development of urban agglomerations are:1)there are differences in the development level of each city,2)the quality of development of each city is uneven,3)and cross-regional cooperation is bound to a certain degree.Suggestions for countermeasures are: 1)strengthen infrastructure construction,2)build interconnected networks,3)optimize resource allocation pattern,4)promote industrial transformation and upgrading,5)establish a coordinated development mechanism.
