At present, the chain retail business has become China’s most vibrantretail business. Chain operation is not only a kind of international businessformat, but also a modern circulation organization structure and managementmode. Developing chain management is effective way to transform andupgrade traditional industry organization, enhance competitive ability andpromote the circulation modernization. In recent years, the domestic chainbusiness maintained a rapid development, formed a variety of system ofownership&business format, variety of chain forms coexisting, and showedpowerful vitality and development potential.Since the middle90’s, China’s retail chain operation begins to developrapidly, but compared to foreign developed retail chain, there is still a gap forsales scale, industry market concentration degree, informtization level ofmanagement, distribution center infrastructure. After2004, China openedChina’s distribution in the field of transnational retailers, foreign retailsentered into China, which lead to Chinese retail industry emerged in the morefierce competition. This paper is mainly expounds the Chinese chain retailformat, type, development trend, the internal management level, seeks Chinesechain current situation and problems, and summarizes the chain supermarketgood operating method.Firstly, the paper overview the retail chain enterprises managementstrategy, development strategy and chain retail related theories, mainlyintroduces the basic theory of chain retail industry which including thedefinition, the chain retail industry development theory, the development ofchain operation and origin; secondly, the paper elaborate present situationand the problem of China chain retail business development; thirdly, takingVanguard as an example, the paper introduce its development experience,chain business, strategic layout, management status, analyze Vanguardproblems by SWOT. At the same time, compared with WAL-MART, we canfind ways to solve the problem of the company operation, and make thecompany develop better in the fierce competition. Drawing lessons from Vanguard and outstanding domestic and foreign chain retail experience andcombined with China’s actual situation to develop chain retail, we shouldfocus on the consumers and enterprises, and pay attention to the quality andbenefit of development, continuous innovation, dig the latent capacity of theenterprise, seize opportunity, development the retail chain enterprises inChina.
