While with the development of economic globalization, the division of labor andinformation network, the relationship between cities tends to be more and moreclosed, and turns to be horizontal cooperation instead of pure competition. Theextroverted force of city is playing a more and more important role in its developmentprocess. Yet constrained by relational data of cities is difficult to obtain, thetraditional city competitiveness research are rarely consider the external factors. As abreakthrough point, this thesis propose the new concept, conceptual model andindicator system based on interact among cities, with the Pearl River Delta urbanagglomeration as an example to study the effect of exogenous factors on citycompetitiveness. The paper is based on coopetition inter-city relations, so the first step is analysisthe present development situation of the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration. TheResult shows that the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration has initially formed acore-edge hierarchy network structure. Further, through the city competitivenessanalysis of the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration, the endogenouscompetitiveness and the exogenous competitiveness promote city competitivenesstogether. At the same time, Endogenous factors and exogenous factors of cities have astrong positive relationship, therefore in the process of urban development, we shouldpay attention to the cooperative relations between them.On the basis of theoretical research and empirical analysis results, this paperproposes an city competitiveness promotion strategy of strengthening endogenouscompetitive as the foundation, at the same time attaching great importance to promotethe exogenous competitiveness.
