Motor status monitoring system for middle and huge motors plays an important role in motor security. It can provide essential information for maintenance engineers to avoid the loss in motor accidents. Wireless sensor network can monitor, sense, collect and process the real-time information of monitoring area. It has become the hot point in the industry and academy research area and also gains a capacious application prospect. In this paper, a new method is developed to construct motor status monitoring system, in which the wireless sensor network replaces traditional wired network. Firstly, this paper introduces the recent research situations in China and abroad. Then, the overall design of motor status monitoring system based on wireless sensor network is presented, including the system framework, wireless frequency choice, topology design, data link layer protocol and network layer protocol. In order to enhance the monitoring reliability and improve the system efficiency, this design adopts slotted CSMA/CA and a new network layer protocol-Directed Flooding. Later the hardware design and realization of this system is introduced, which uses ATmega128L and CC2420 chips. This design improves the power administration module and provides two power supply methods-battery and 220V DC, which better fits motors’working environments. Then this paper analyzes the software design of this system based on IEEE802.15.4. The software design resolves the problems of data collection, node communication, data link control and routing policy. At last, this paper detailed explains and analyzes the experiment result of this system, which verifies the feasibility, reliability and solidity of motor status monitoring system based on wireless sensor network.
