Automatic cooking robot is a new machine, which can cook Chinese meal automatically according to the designed program. Nowadays, the Automatic Cooking Robot is on the process of becoming merchandise. The stability needs to be enhanced; on the other side, the robot works in the environment full of fire and smoke. This environment may make the robot break down. So developing the fault diagnosis system is quite necessary.First, this paper tells the mechanical and control system, and explains how the automatic cooking robot works. Then, establish the fault tree of automatic cooking robot, make clear the fault elements and fault cause of the robot, and get the reliability and critical importance of the robot. All of these build the theoretical basement of the next diagnosis instrument and fault diagnosis system. After that, in order to find out all of the fault elements of the robot, I design the portal Automatic Cooking Robot fault instrument which is based on USB bus. The instrument is portal and smart, and can find out the fault of motors, valves and sensors of the robot. Finally, develop the fault self-diagnosis system of the robot. This fault self-diagnosis system operates in real time and diagnoses the elements which have greater critical importance in priority. The experiment shows that the fault self-diagnosis system can achieve the fault diagnosis task and supply the maintenance suggestion.
