Virtual Reality as a new interactive interface, its application prospects are verybrilliant. How to build virtual reality resources conveniently and how to use thoseresources simply are problems to be solved. The paper investigates seven models andtheir relationship in virtual reality scene based on panorama technology, proposes ageneral architecture of virtual reality fundamental platform, implements a virtualreality platform according to existing discussions called VRViewer.VRViewer includes four parts, VRBuilder for creation and management of virtualreality resources, VRIndexer for providing virtual reality resource indexes to clientapplications, VRAPI for providing a set of APIs to client applications to embedvirtual reality resources and interact with VRViewer, VRAdministrator for managingthis platform. Each interface of VRViewer’s parts is RESTful, which makes theoverall platform clear, simple, and efficient. With VRViewer, people without technicalbackgrounds can easily create and manage virtual reality resources. Clientapplications based on the platform can easily embed their virtual reality resources andgreatly improve their user experience with lower cost. This greatly reduced the upperthreshold for application to use virtual reality resources.
