In modern times, information, intelligent and network has been developed rapidly. The embedded system technology has been widely used in multiple areas, such as industrial control, traffic management, information appliances, the intelligent management system of home, POS network and electronic commerce, environmental engineering and natural, the application prospect is very broad. With the research and popularization of embedded systems products at home and abroad, the embedded system has been penetrated into every aspect of daily life.The common embedded operating system includes Linux, VxWorks, Windows CE, etc., which the embedded Linux operating system has achieved rapid development in the field of the embedded operating system, because it has many advantages, such as open source code, multi-user, multi-tasking, easy development and maintenance, system stability, low cost. The protocol conversion module based on embedded Linux system is flexible and extensible, it makes good use of the embedded system technology, and supports serial interface and the full-duplex data transmission of network interface, so it is able to complete the data transmission quickly.This thesis is under the background of the embedded technology has become mature increasingly, and to research and design the Zigbee smart gateway as the goal which is based on ARM-11high-performance embedded processor and embedded Linux operation system, through the establishment of Linux development platform to research the network and serial port programming under embedded system, and be focused to achieve the communication between the port and serial port under embedded Linux system, and also complete the upper computer software with the function of monitoring and setting. The upper computer based on the MFC can realize the network communication with gateway, and embedded Linux system’s application receive the data from coordinator via the serial port, through the analysis to transmit data to upper computer via the port, as the Linux system’s network performance is stable and the computing speed is fast, this improve the promptness of the system largely.This thesis also does the reliability design of embedded gateway and the net between gateway and upper computer, use the double machine hot standby technology to develop the automatic switching function of multiple gateways, to avoid the system stop running due to malfunctioning of the gateway. Use the DES encryption algorithm and time synchronization software ptp-deamon to protect data transmission security and time synchronization in the network.Finally, apply the developed embedded Linux gateway to the Zigbee wireless network system successfully, user can realization the monitoring, control and parameter setting of Zigbee coordinator through the upper computer online. It has been a large number of experiments show that the intelligent gateway based on embedded Linux system work is stable, flexible use and strong real-time performance, it is a protocol conversion module can be used in the real life and production.
