With the development of computer visualization technology, requirements for archeological digitization are getting higher and higher. Accurately reflecting the original appearance of cultural relics, archaeological drawing is highly valuable in transmission, publication and research areas in the late period. At present, archaeological drawing is mainly conducted manually, but it costs a lot of time and effort in this way. In addition, the final production varies by different people. Using computer-aided technology to automatically generate archaeological drawing can meet requirements of the archaeological excavation and reduce the workload of the archaeological staff because of its more efficiency. Aiming at this goal, this paper studied automated drawing technology, designed the automatic system of archeological drawing, and finished the digitalization modeling process of pit No.K9901in Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses. The research can be divided into the following six parts.(1) Automated process of archeological drawing is proposed. At first,3D scanner is used for modeling the cultural relics.. Then, the contour line detection technology is utilized to obtain cultural relics line from its3D model. Finally, the mapping based on cultural relics line is finished by the texture mapping technology.(2) Cultural relics from pit No.K9901in Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses are scanned by3D scanner and their complete and authentic3D models are generated by using the methods of de-noising, holes filling and grid simplification.(3) View-dependent explicit ridges extracting method is employed to extract the outline of3D model. Due to the fast efficiency and the avoidance of re-extraction caused by the change of view point. The method has good performance in the practice of the extraction of cultural relics line.(4) Expansion algorithm of contour line is improved. For the problem of the stiffness of the line after extraction and local gap, we modify the expansion algorithm of counter line in order to make the cultural relics line continuous and natural. (5) Propose a region-corresponding segmentation method of relics line map based on the geometry information of3D model. The normal of the3D model surface and the generated depth image from model are combined to perform the region-based segmentation for the relics line map of the model.(6) Design and implement generative system of archeological cultural relics drawing. With very specialty, expansibility and usability, this system can accomplish the tasks with respect to archeological drawing.This research was supported by973special projects of preliminary studies (No.2011CB311802).
