With the continuous development of society, there is an increasing demand for video surveillance, which has penetrated into all aspects of daily life and industrial production. Because video surveillance can provide the users with objective visual material clearly, thereby attract widespread attention.This paper reviewed the development of the video surveillance system, introduced the research status of the video surveillance technology at home and abroad and the future development direction. According to the topic research goal, this paper conducted the demand analysis for the system’s functions, put forward a few sets of video surveillance schemes based on embedded processor. After a comprehensive analysis and comparison of the features and advantages&disadvantages of these schemes, the author finally determined an optimal solution:B/S model video capture and wireless transmission scheme based on ARM11microprocessor. Took the high-performance and Low power consumption ARM11microprocessor as processing core, with powerful embedded Linux operating system, this scheme used the Linux-UVC protocol standard supported USB webcam as image capture device, configured and transplanted open source software mjpg-streamer as a video server, realized the capture and processing of images, then transferred the processed images into MJPEG streaming media, and sent them to the user platform computer through wireless network. On the user platform, users can watch the video images through Internet browser.This paper analyzed and compared the advantages&disadvantages of the hardware and software of this system, and determined the composition of the hardware platform and software platform. Then it introduced the system’s overall design, explained the system’s hardware and software design, described the building process of cross-development environment and embedded development platform in detail. Then the paper introduced mjpg-streamer video server and its working process, analyzed video image capture technology based on V4L2API, image compression technology based on JPEG algorithm and network communication technology based on TCP/IP protocol family&socket programming in detail. Finally, it configured and transplanted the mjpg-streamer video server to the embedded development platform, and established a video capture and wireless transmission experimental platform. Conclusion is made by experimental test:this system can realize video capture and wireless transmission, and users can watch the video through Internet browser in Windows XP platform and Linux platform, and achieved the expected effect of video capture and wireless transmission system.
