Most of the traditional design is based on MCU, ARM and DSP to develop single-chip or multi-processor system. But the requirements of large information processing and real-time feature is increasing rapidly, traditional design has already not meet the modern requirements. Embedded multi-processor exploiting based on SOPC utilizing FPGA technology can be an effective solution for large number of data processing, transmission as well as hardware and software co-design. Due to the feature of flexible design approach, short levelopment cycle, hardware/software programmable, scalable and expandable, SOPC (System on a Programmable Chip)have been more widely used.Under the basis of Xilinx development platform, this paper constructs a multi-processor SOPC system using MicroBlaze soft-processor grounding on the research of single-processor SOPC system, designs minimum configuration peripherals such us Led, Dip, interrupter and timer. To test the hardware SOPC system, software development carried out including:Led displaying in both automatic and manual method, driving Dip device to receive keyboard information and display in the HyperTerminal, writing communications program to transfer information among processors.The results show that the use of SOPC platform can quickly constructs a computer system with scalable hardware/software and develops software on optimized minimum configuration hardware. Simultaneously, SOPC can construct multi-processor system during a short period of time to provide real-time verification environment and software development environment for embedded applications with minimal cost hardware configuration. So hardware and software co-design based on SOPC has a wide application prospect.
