Living in the time of information explosion, we can constantly feel the rapidchange of technology, especially the electronic equipments. Smaller, Portable,intelligent, stable, functional integration, functional enhancement and morecost-effective have become the main theme of the electronic equipments. However,the image processing system, important in both military and civilian applications, stilluses PCs or FPGA+DSP as the basic framework for more than ten years without bigchanges. With the users’ new requirements of high definition, high speed, real time,remote control and multi-functional integration, the traditional architecture of theimage processing system can hardly solve the problem because of the difficultydevelopment and high costs. And with the improvement of data transfer speed, theissue of the stability of multi-chip communication has become prominent. Sodeveloping new image processing system architecture has become the key ofoccupying the high ground for the electronics companies.In the electronic device develop process, the embedded operating system,represented by Linux, has been more widely used because of its characteristics of realtime, open source, stable, functional integration, short develop cycle, low develop cost,less develop effort and so on. How to introduce the embedded operating system intothe image processing system has become the latest trends. Therefore, TI(TexasInstruments) has developed a new embedded high definition image processing system–the2nd Generation DaVinci System. It not only inherits the advantages of thetraditional image processing system but also makes up its deficiencies. The system,using TMS320DM8168, the latest DaVinci chip released by TI, as the core processor,is able to complete high definition video capture, display, algorithm process, high speed storage and network transmission. The article will pay attention to the system’sthree key technology, that is the design of the HD interface board, the driver of theboard and the algorithm development of the DaVinci system.The experiment results show that the system introduces the embedded Linuxoperating system, it frees FPGA and DSP from the complex system control. Thesystem can achieve high definition image capture, display, process, high speed storageand network sharing functions. Compared to the traditional image process system,DM8168, integrating ARM and DSP, has unparalleled advantages in terms of stability,representing the developing trend of the new generation of image processing system.
